Novi Grad, a town in the northwestern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is inextricably linked to the Una River, renowned for its clean, emerald green waters. The Una is fundamentally a cold river, being spring-fed and influenced by its mountain origins. Consequently, its water remains cold throughout the year. In the winter, the temperature is typically very low, generally ranging from 5∘C to 9∘C. Even during the warmest summer months, the water in the Novi Grad area rarely exceeds 18∘C to 21∘C, which, while refreshing, is still on the cooler side for casual swimming.
Swimming in the Una River is a tradition and a popular summer activity in Novi Grad, particularly at designated spots like the town beach.
