The Tigris River (called Dicle in Turkish) as it flows through Elazığ exhibits seasonal variability in water temperature linked to elevation, snowmelt and flow regime. In winter months temperatures commonly range from about 2–8 °C (36–46 °F) when cold air and runoff keep the river chilly. Spring warming and continued snowmelt typically produce temperatures around 6–14 °C (43–57 °F). In summer the warmest, calmer reaches can reach roughly 18–24 °C (64–75 °F), with shallow, slow-moving side arms occasionally rising a few degrees higher on hot days. Autumn cooling generally brings temperatures back to the 10–16 °C (50–61 °F) band as flows increase again.
Swimming opportunities on the Dicle in Elazığ depend on location and season. While some local, sheltered pools and slow-flowing bends are used for bathing during the warmest weeks, widespread recreational swimming is not universally recommended because of variable currents, sudden changes from dam releases, submerged hazards and occasional water-quality concerns. Local rules and signage can prohibit access near infrastructure, so permits or advice from local authorities and caution about cold shock and flow conditions are important when considering entering the river.
