** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Ilısu Reservoir, formed by the Ilısu Dam on the Tigris in southeastern Turkey and extending into parts of the Siirt area, shows marked seasonal variation in surface water temperature. In winter the surface typically cools to roughly 4–10 °C (39–50 °F). Spring brings a steady rise, with temperatures commonly between 10–20 °C (50–68 °F) as inflows warm. Summer surface conditions are the warmest, often reaching 20–28 °C (68–82 °F) and occasionally higher in shallow bays on hot days. In autumn the surface cools again to around 12–20 °C (54–68 °F). These are approximate ranges for surface waters; deeper layers remain cooler year-round and thermal stratification can occur in summer, producing a sharp temperature gradient with depth.
Swimming in the Ilısu Reservoir is generally not encouraged and may be subject to local restrictions. Operational factors at large dams—such as rapidly changing water levels, strong currents near intakes and spillways, submerged debris or steep drop-offs—create safety hazards. Water quality can also vary with runoff, turbidity and occasional algal growth, which may limit suitability for recreation. Some calmer, sheltered bays may be used informally for bathing where authorities permit, but visitors should heed posted warnings and consult local officials before entering the water.
