** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Tiber (Italian: Tevere) has its source on Mount Fumaiolo in the Emilia‑Romagna Apennines and then flows mainly through Umbria and Lazio before reaching the Tyrrhenian Sea. Water temperatures vary with season and along the course: in upper reaches near the source and in cooler months surface temperatures commonly sit around 4–12 °C (39–54 °F), warming in spring and early summer to roughly 10–18 °C (50–64 °F). In the central and lower stretches, including the Rome area, seasonal surface temperatures are generally about 6–14 °C (43–57 °F) in late winter/early spring and can rise to approximately 18–26 °C (64–79 °F) during hot summer months; autumn brings a gradual cooling back toward the winter range. These figures are approximations and depend on recent weather, river depth and flow.
Swimming in the Tiber is typically discouraged in urban and lowland sections for a combination of legal, environmental and safety reasons. Many stretches, especially through Rome, suffer from variable water quality (pollution and runoff), navigation by boats, changing currents and submerged hazards; local authorities often prohibit or advise against bathing. In more remote upper reaches water can be clearer and temperatures cooler, making occasional informal swimming possible, but anyone considering entering the river should check local regulations, recent water‑quality reports and be aware of currents, depth changes and access limitations.
