*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The River Stende, flowing through the small town of Stende in northwestern Latvia, is a modest lowland river whose temperature varies strongly with the seasons. In winter the water commonly sits around freezing or just above, roughly 0 to 2 °C (32 to 36 °F) and may be ice-covered for longer cold spells. Spring sees a steady rise as snowmelt and warming air increase flows, typically 2 to 10 °C (36 to 50 °F) through April and May. In summer the shallow, slow-moving sections warm most, often ranging between 14 and 22 °C (57 to 72 °F) on warm days, though cloudy or rainy periods keep temperatures lower. Autumn brings a cooling trend, with temperatures falling back to about 6 to 12 °C (43 to 54 °F) before freeze-up.
Swimming in the Stende is possible but mostly informal: there are no large designated public beaches with lifeguards, so bathing is done at one’s own risk when conditions are suitable. In summer, when water reaches the mid-teens to low twenties Celsius, swimming is comfortable for many people, but visitors should be mindful of variable depth, submerged vegetation, and occasional strong currents near constrictions. Water quality is not monitored as regularly as at official bathing sites, and in winter only experienced ice-swimmers practice controlled plunges; otherwise swimming is not advised when ice is present or temperatures are near freezing.
