*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The River Laune flows from Lough Leane near Killarney in County Kerry and winds through Killorglin before reaching Dingle Bay. Its water is fresh and clear, influenced by mountain streams and the mild maritime climate of southwest Ireland. In winter, the river typically remains around 5–7°C (41–45°F), while in summer it warms to about 14–17°C (57–63°F). On calm, sunny days in July or August, surface temperatures in sheltered areas may briefly reach 18°C (64°F), though the flow from the nearby lakes and hills keeps the water cool and invigorating year-round. The combination of clean water and moderate seasonal changes makes the Laune suitable for outdoor activities during the warmer months.
Swimming in the River Laune is allowed, though it is best done with care due to variable currents and occasional high water after rain. Locals and visitors often swim in calmer stretches near Killorglin during summer, especially when water levels are low and conditions stable. Wetsuits are recommended outside midsummer, as the river cools quickly below the surface. The surrounding region offers excellent outdoor attractions, including the Ring of Kerry, Lough Leane, and the scenic Reeks District. Together, they provide a mix of natural beauty, mountain views, and clear rivers ideal for recreation and exploration.
