*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The River Feale flows through the southwest of Ireland, rising in the Mullaghareirk Mountains and passing through Abbeyfeale and Listowel before joining the River Cashen and entering the sea at Ballybunion. Its water temperature reflects the cool, temperate climate of County Kerry and west Limerick. In winter, the Feale averages around 4–7°C (39–45°F), while in summer it generally reaches 15–18°C (59–64°F). On particularly warm days in July or August, shallow stretches may briefly rise to 19°C (66°F), though the main current remains cooler due to steady flow from the uplands. These moderate temperatures make swimming possible in summer, when the water feels fresh but manageable.
Swimming in the River Feale is allowed, and locals often take advantage of calm, shallow areas during warm weather. Safe swimming spots are found near Listowel, where the flow slows before the river meets the estuary. As with most Irish rivers, caution is important, as water levels can rise quickly after rain and currents may vary. Wetsuits are common outside midsummer. The Feale is also popular for salmon and trout fishing, kayaking, and riverside walks. Nearby attractions include the heritage town of Listowel, Ballybunion’s beaches and cliffs, and scenic routes along North Kerry, offering a balance of cultural and outdoor experiences.
