Swimming in such conditions is possible, but for most people, the time spent in the water should be limited to avoid hypothermia. Even experienced swimmers may feel discomfort if they stay in the water for too long. To improve comfort and safety, a wetsuit can be used. It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. When the air temperature is below 68°F (20°C), and sometimes even below 77°F (25°C), swimming can be unpleasant even with relatively high water temperatures.

** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Belá is a free‑flowing mountain river that tumbles out of the High Tatras near Podbanské, fed mainly by snowmelt and cold springs. Because of that, the water stays cold even in summer: in spring it often sits around 2–6°C, early summer tends to be roughly 6–10°C, and on hot days the temperature in shallow, slow side pools can briefly climb to about 12–15°C before dropping again overnight. In winter it hovers close to freezing.
Swimming here is possible but not really the point of the river. The current is swift, the bed is rocky and ever‑shifting, and water levels can rise quickly after storms or rapid thaw. Most people limit themselves to quick dips, wading, or cold‑water plunges in calm side channels and along gravel bars around Podbanské and downstream toward Pribylina. If you try it, choose low‑flow days, aim for sheltered pools rather than the main current, wear sturdy water shoes (or neoprene if you plan to linger), never jump into unknown sections, and don’t go alone—especially in spring, when the water is at its coldest and fastest.
