*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Kiiminkijoki River flows through North Ostrobothnia in northern Finland, running from the forested uplands of Puolanka and Utajärvi to the Gulf of Bothnia near Haukipudas. It is one of the few large free-flowing rivers in the region and is known for its clean water and natural rapids. The river’s water temperature varies with the seasons and depends on weather conditions and flow rate. In spring, after the ice melts in April or early May, the water is very cold, around 3–6 °C (37–43 °F). During early summer, the temperature rises to 13–16 °C (55–61 °F), and in July, at the warmest time, the surface water usually reaches 17–20 °C (63–68 °F). In shallow and calm stretches, it can briefly reach 21–22 °C (70–72 °F). By late September, the river cools below 10 °C (50 °F).
Swimming in the Kiiminkijoki River is allowed and common in calm sections during summer. The water is clean, and some areas near villages and bridges are suitable for bathing. However, strong currents and rapids make other parts unsuitable for swimming. On warm days, locals enjoy quick, refreshing dips in the quieter parts of the river, where the pure, cool water reflects the unspoiled northern landscape.
