The Hinterrhein is one of the two headwaters of the Rhine River, located in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. This river flows from the high-altitude sources near the Splügen Pass and continues to the confluence with the Vorderrhein near Reichenau, where they form the Rhine River. The Hinterrhein passes through scenic valleys and offers stunning views of the surrounding Alpine terrain. Its cold, fresh waters originate from glaciers, and the temperature of the river is typically quite low, even in summer, often between 5°C and 12°C (41°F - 54°F), depending on the season and location. Swimming is not common due to the cold temperatures, but the river is popular for rafting and other adventure sports.
