Water Temperature: Daily Trends, Historical Records, and Forecast
❌ As of today, the minimum water temperature ranges from 47°F (8°C) to 50°F (10°C). This is still cool water, suitable only for experienced swimmers or those accustomed to cold water. Swimming in such conditions is possible, but not recommended for prolonged periods. Extra caution should be taken during extended exposure, as the cold water can cause heat loss and lead to hypothermia. For added comfort, special clothing can be used. It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. When the air temperature is below 68°F (20°C), and sometimes even below 77°F (25°C), swimming can be unpleasant even with relatively high water temperatures.

** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Flagstadelva (Flagstadelva) in Innlandet County typically shows strong seasonal variation in water temperature because it is fed by local runoff and snowmelt. In winter the river can be close to freezing, commonly around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F). During spring, as snow melts and flows increase, temperatures often range from about 2–8 °C (36–46 °F). In summer sheltered, slow-moving stretches can warm to roughly 12–20 °C (54–68 °F) on warm years, though faster, deeper sections usually stay cooler. In autumn temperatures tend to decline to roughly 6–12 °C (43–54 °F) as air temperatures fall and daylight shortens.
Swimming in Flagstadelva is generally possible in principle, but whether it is advisable depends on location, season and conditions. There are no universal bans on bathing in most Norwegian rivers, but strong currents, cold-water shock in shoulder seasons, hidden obstacles and variable water quality can make some spots unsafe. Warmer, shallow bays and slower stretches are the most practical for swimming in summer, while winter swimming is risky except where ice-free, supervised facilities exist. Local signage, landowner access rules and common-sense safety measures should be checked before entering the water.
