** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Dalälven in Dalarna County shows marked seasonal variation in water temperature. In winter the river is often at or near freezing, about 0–2 °C (32–36 °F), and parts may be ice-covered. During spring snowmelt temperatures typically range from roughly 1–6 °C (34–43 °F) as cold runoff keeps the river cool. In summer, when air temperatures and solar radiation are highest, surface waters in slower, shallower stretches commonly warm to around 15–22 °C (59–72 °F), and sheltered bays or backwaters can occasionally reach about 24 °C (75 °F) on hot spells. In autumn the river cools again to roughly 6–12 °C (43–54 °F). Actual temperatures vary with flow, depth, shading, and reservoir releases, so local conditions can differ from these typical ranges.
Swimming is generally possible in many parts of Dalälven, particularly where the river widens, forms sandy beaches or flows through lake-like reaches, and where local authorities maintain bathing areas. However it is not universally safe; strong currents, cold water shock during much of the year, boat traffic, hidden debris, and hazards near rapids, locks or hydropower installations can make swimming dangerous. Water quality can also fluctuate and warm summers may bring algal patches in slow areas. Swimmers should choose designated bathing spots where available, heed local signage and warnings, and take usual precautions for cold or open-water swimming.
