*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Ljusnan in Dalarna County is a northern European river whose water temperature changes markedly with the seasons and local conditions. During summer, shallow and slow-moving stretches and adjacent lakes can warm to roughly 15–22 °C (59–72 °F), while the main channel often stays cooler around 10–18 °C (50–64 °F). In spring, snowmelt and high flows typically keep temperatures low, often in the 0–6 °C (32–43 °F) range, and in autumn the river cools to about 5–10 °C (41–50 °F). Winter conditions bring temperatures close to freezing, frequently 0–2 °C (32–36 °F) in open water and ice cover in many places. Local weather, depth, flow speed and inflowing lakes all affect these figures, so conditions can vary from one spot to another.
Swimming in the Ljusnan is permitted in many places and is a common summer activity in calm bays and shallower reaches, but it is not universally safe. Strong currents, sudden drops, and regulated releases from hydroelectric plants can create hazardous conditions, and cold-water shock is a real risk outside the warmest months. Bathing spots with gentle shorelines are the safest for families, while wetsuits or short swims are advisable in cooler water. Observing local signs, choosing sheltered areas and being aware of current and weather are important for safe swimming.
