** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Mora sits on the shores of Lake Siljan in Dalarna County, and lake water temperatures follow a clear seasonal pattern typical for central Sweden. In spring (April–May) surface temperatures are commonly around 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) as the lake cools from winter and slowly warms. Early summer and June often see 12–18 °C (54–64 °F), while peak summer in July–August can bring surface water up to roughly 17–22 °C (63–72 °F) on warm, sunny days. In autumn (September–October) temperatures fall back toward 8–15 °C (46–59 °F), and in winter the surface is near freezing, roughly 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), with ice cover possible some years.
Swimming is generally allowed around Mora because of Sweden’s public access traditions and the many designated bathing spots and municipal beaches on Siljan that facilitate safe entry. Local authorities monitor water quality at popular beaches during the bathing season, but conditions vary with weather and wind, so swimmers should follow posted signs and local guidance. Ice swimming and winter bathing occur but require appropriate safety measures and knowledge about ice thickness; lifeguard coverage is limited outside staffed beach times, so personal caution is important.
