The Bednja River, one of the smaller rivers in northern Croatia, flows gently through valleys and villages before joining the Drava. Its shallow character means the water warms up fairly quickly in summer, often reaching 20–24°C during July and August. While cooler than large lakes, the Bednja still provides a pleasant refreshment on hot days, especially in calmer sections where the flow is not too strong.
Swimming in the Bednja is not widespread, but it is possible in certain stretches where locals sometimes go for a dip. The banks are often natural and overgrown, so access can be limited, but this also gives the river a quiet and untouched charm. Those who do swim here usually enjoy a very peaceful and private experience, surrounded by greenery and away from crowds.
