Swimming in such conditions is perfect for those seeking relaxation and comfort in the water. These waters are often preferred for relaxation in hot weather, as the water temperature does not cool the body significantly. *** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Walk Lake, an inlet feature of the larger Amistad Reservoir in Texas, offers varying water conditions primarily governed by the subtropical climate of the region. Water temperatures follow a distinct seasonal pattern, making swimming feasible during much of the year, though thermal comfort fluctuates significantly. During the winter months, from roughly December through February, the water temperature typically ranges between 55°F and 65°F (13°C to 18°C). While swimming is generally permitted throughout Amistad Reservoir, these temperatures are cool and are usually only suitable for brief dips or specialized aquatic activities like diving.
The lake transitions rapidly into the warmer season, with optimal swimming conditions generally prevailing from late spring through early fall. Summer water temperatures frequently climb into the upper 80s°F and can often exceed 90°F (32°C to 34°C) in shallower coves, providing a comfortable and highly appealing environment for prolonged recreational swimming and watersports. Walk Lake is subject to the regulations of the National Park Service, which manages Amistad National Recreation Area, and swimming is allowed year-round in all open waters of the reservoir, barring specific safety closures. The best time for enjoying the temperate water is typically between May and September.
