*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Amistad Reservoir, straddling the Texas–Mexico border, exhibits substantial seasonal and depth-related variation in water temperature. Surface temperatures in summer commonly range from about 80–92°F (27–33°C), making the shallows quite warm. In spring and fall the reservoir more typically sits around 60–78°F (16–26°C), and winter surface readings often fall into the 45–60°F (7–16°C) band. Because Amistad is a deep impoundment, deeper water remains noticeably colder than the surface; thermoclines can produce temperatures closer to or below 40–50°F (4–10°C) at depth even when surface values are moderate.
Swimming is generally permitted at Amistad in designated shoreline parks, marinas, and quiet coves because the reservoir is managed for multiple recreation uses. Visitors should be aware that there are usually no lifeguards on duty, water levels and access change with dam operations, and water quality or algal blooms can intermittently affect conditions. Temperature considerations are important: warm summer surface water is comfortable for most swimmers, while cold winter or deep water poses hypothermia risks. Boat traffic and submerged hazards also influence where and when swimming is safest.
