Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Shuswap Lake in British Columbia is a large, deep lake famous for its houseboating and recreational use, benefiting from the warm summers of the interior region. Its surface water temperature experiences a comfortable seasonal warming that makes it a prime summer destination. In the peak summer months, from late July through August, surface temperatures typically range from 21∘C to 25∘C (70∘F to 77∘F), making it highly inviting for swimming. However, the deep hypolimnion layer remains cold year-round, and in the winter, the surface cools significantly, often to the range of 0∘C to 5∘C (32∘F to 41∘F).
Swimming is widely permitted and extremely popular throughout Shuswap Lake. Many provincial parks, such as Shuswap Lake Provincial Park, feature sandy beaches with designated, buoyed swimming areas, confirming that swimming is a key activity. However, swimmers must be aware of the high volume of boat traffic, including houseboats and watercraft, especially during the summer. While Interior Health monitors water quality at public beaches, an irritant known as Swimmer's Itch is present at times. Outside of monitored areas, all swimming is at one's own risk, and caution is advised to towel off immediately after swimming to mitigate the risk of Swimmer's Itch.
