*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Sam Rayburn Reservoir in southeast Texas experiences noticeable seasonal shifts in water temperature. In winter months surface temperatures commonly drop into the mid-40s to mid-50s °F (about 7–13 °C), while spring brings a warming trend into the mid-50s to mid-70s °F (roughly 13–24 °C). Summer typically produces the warmest surface readings, often ranging from the mid-70s to mid-80s °F and occasionally reaching the upper 80s to around 90 °F (about 24–32 °C). Autumn sees a steady cooling back toward spring values. These figures are for surface water; deeper parts of the reservoir remain cooler and conditions can change quickly with weather, wind and inflow from tributaries.
Swimming at Sam Rayburn is commonly practiced and permitted in many areas, but it is largely informal rather than organized—there are few lifeguarded public beaches, and swimming often happens from boat ramps, parks and private shorelines. Because of boat traffic, submerged structure, variable depths and occasional water-quality advisories (including algae or bacterial concerns), swimmers should exercise caution, choose sheltered spots, wear buoyancy aids if uncertain, and check current conditions before entering the water. Late spring through early fall offers the most comfortable temperatures for swimming.
