*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Saganashkee Slough is a shallow, man-made impoundment in Cook County whose surface water temperatures follow the typical seasonal pattern for Midwestern lakes. In spring (March–May) temperatures commonly rise from roughly 40–65°F (4–18°C) as air warms and ice melts. By summer (June–August) the shallower bays and protected coves often reach around 70–80°F (21–27°C), occasionally a bit warmer on hot, calm stretches. In early fall (September–November) surface temperatures fall back to the 50–65°F (10–18°C) range as cooler nights set in. In winter the slough usually approaches freezing, about 32–40°F (0–4°C), and can freeze over depending on sustained cold, with localized variation from depth, wind and inflows affecting these numbers.
Swimming is generally not permitted at Saganashkee Slough because the site lacks a designated, lifeguarded beach and the Forest Preserve’s rules restrict swimming except at approved locations. Besides regulatory limits, the slough’s combination of boating activity, submerged hazards, variable depths and occasional water-quality concerns make it unsuitable for casual bathing even when temperatures are warm. Recreational use is focused on fishing, boating and wildlife viewing, so anyone considering entering the water should check local preserve rules and posted signage and treat the slough as a non‑swimming water body.
