** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#Rutland
Rutland Water’s temperature varies through the year: in winter the reservoir typically cools to around 4–7°C (39–45°F), spring sees a rise to roughly 6–14°C (43–57°F), summer water temperatures commonly reach 15–22°C (59–72°F) and autumn drops back to about 8–14°C (46–57°F). These are general ranges and can vary with weather, wind and depth. Open water swimming is not freely permitted across the whole reservoir because it is a working water supply and because of safety concerns linked to currents, cold water and vessel traffic. However, organised and supervised swims, clubs and designated swim sites operate under controlled conditions and with permission; these provide safer access and support for people who want to swim in the reservoir.
Beyond swimming, the area offers a mix of outdoor attractions. The RSPB reserve at Egleton is popular for birdwatching, and there are extensive walking and cycling trails around the shore, sailing and angling opportunities, and nearby Rutland towns such as Oakham for cafes, shops and historic interest.
