** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Mozingo Lake, a reservoir in northwest Missouri, experiences typical Midwestern seasonal water temperatures that reflect air temperature, depth and wind-driven mixing. In winter the surface can drop into the mid-30s to mid-40s °F (about 2–7 °C). Spring brings a steady rise, with surface readings commonly ranging from the mid-40s to mid-60s °F (7–18 °C) as the lake stratifies. Peak summer surface temperatures are usually in the low 70s to low 80s °F (21–28 °C) on warm, calm days, though shallow coves can be a few degrees warmer and deeper areas remain cooler. During autumn the water typically cools back through the 50s and 60s °F (10–20 °C) before overturn in late fall. Short-term variations are normal; wind, recent weather and inflows can shift temperatures by several degrees.
Recreational swimming at Mozingo is allowed in designated areas managed as part of the recreation park, primarily during the warmer late spring through early fall months when water temperatures are comfortable for bathing. Swimming policies and conditions vary seasonally, and visitors should heed posted rules and warnings because beaches may be unsupervised and water quality or lake levels can lead to temporary restrictions. As with any lake, swimmers should be mindful of changing temperatures, underwater hazards and the lack of lifeguard protection.
