*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Mittry Lake, located north of Yuma in southwestern Arizona, is a shallow backwater lake along the lower Colorado River surrounded by marshes, mesquite, and desert hills. The lake’s water temperature remains warm for most of the year due to its low elevation and the region’s intense desert heat. During winter, surface temperatures typically range from 55 to 63°F (13–17°C), cool but still mild compared to northern lakes. As spring progresses, the lake warms quickly, reaching 70–78°F (21–26°C) by April and May. In summer, Mittry Lake often becomes quite warm, with surface temperatures averaging 84–90°F (29–32°C) in July and August. During autumn, the water cools gradually to around 68–75°F (20–24°C), maintaining pleasant conditions for recreation through much of the year.
Swimming is allowed at Mittry Lake, though it is not the primary activity because the lake is shallow and contains vegetation and sediment in many areas. Nonetheless, its warm water and natural setting make it suitable for casual swimming or wading during the hot months, especially along clearer shoreline sections. The absence of developed beaches and lifeguards means that swimmers should use caution and avoid areas with thick vegetation or boat traffic. Overall, Mittry Lake provides warm, calm waters ideal for informal swimming and enjoying Arizona’s desert scenery.
