** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Tapps is a managed reservoir in Washington whose surface temperatures vary noticeably with the seasons. In spring the water typically warms from around 45–60°F (7–16°C) as air temperatures moderate; summer brings the warmest surface readings, often in the 62–75°F range (17–24°C) on sunny days; fall cooling usually yields 50–65°F (10–18°C); and winter surface temperatures commonly sit near 35–45°F (2–7°C), depending on storms and cold snaps. Because Lake Tapps is relatively deep in places and subject to inflows and reservoir operations, deeper water remains much colder than the surface and sudden changes in temperature can occur. Weather, wind, reservoir releases and local shading all influence day-to-day readings.
Swimming is possible at Lake Tapps and is commonly done from public parks, marinas and private shorelines, but it is generally allowed only in appropriate areas and without lifeguard supervision. Visitors should be cautious: boat traffic, submerged structures, sudden drop-offs and cold water below the surface are real hazards, and occasional water-quality issues such as algal blooms or bacterial contamination can lead to temporary advisories against swimming. For safety and comfort, swimmers are advised to choose sheltered spots, wear a life jacket when boating, and heed any local advisories before entering the water.
