** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Redstone, like many midwestern impoundments, shows clear seasonal variation in water temperature. In winter the surface commonly approaches freezing, around 32°F (0°C), and water just below ice can remain in the low 30s to upper 30s °F (0–3°C). Spring brings a steady warming, with surface temperatures often climbing from the 40s to 60s °F (4–16°C) as ice melts and the lake mixes. By summer the top layers typically reach the 70s °F (21–27°C) and on warm spells can rise into the low 80s °F (27–28°C), while deeper water stays noticeably cooler. Fall sees a decline back through the 50s and 40s °F (10–4°C) as the lake cools and turnover occurs.
Swimming in Lake Redstone is a common recreational activity during the warmer months because surface temperatures in June–August are generally comfortable for bathing and water play. There are no inherent water temperature prohibitions, but safety and comfort depend on conditions: cold-water shock and hypothermia are risks outside the warm season, and ice thickness must be verified before any winter activity. As with other lakes, swimmers should be mindful of water quality advisories, localized hazards such as drop-offs or vegetation, and the absence of lifeguards in many areas.
