** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Quitman, like many East Texas reservoirs, experiences substantial seasonal variation in surface water temperature. In winter the lake typically cools to roughly 45–55°F (7–13°C). Spring brings a steady rise, often into the mid 50s–70°F (13–21°C) as air temperatures warm and stratification begins to break down. Summer surface temperatures commonly reach the mid 70s to upper 80s °F (24–32°C) and can occasionally approach or exceed 90°F (32°C) in heat waves. During autumn the water usually cools back into the 60s–75°F range (16–24°C) before winter chill returns. These figures are approximate and can vary with weather, depth, and inflows; deeper parts of the reservoir remain cooler than the surface.
Swimming in Lake Quitman is generally possible and is a common recreational use, but it is not the same as a staffed municipal beach. There are no widespread lifeguard services, and access can be limited by private shoreline ownership or by seasonal boat traffic. Water-quality issues such as turbidity, aquatic vegetation, or occasional harmful algal blooms can make swimming inadvisable at times, and cold winter temperatures raise hypothermia risk. Visitors should observe posted signage, check current local water-quality advisories, and use prudent safety measures such as wearing life jackets and avoiding distant or solitary swims.
