*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Quinault, set in the temperate rainforest of Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, typically has cool water year-round. Surface temperatures in summer generally range from about 60–70°F (15–21°C), with the warmest conditions in July and August. In spring and early summer the lake is cooler, roughly 45–55°F (7–13°C), and autumn sees a gradual decline into the 50–60°F (10–16°C) range as air temperatures fall. Winter surface readings are often near freezing to the low 40s, roughly 34–42°F (1–6°C). These values vary with seasonal precipitation, recent weather, and depth: deeper water remains colder even in summer, and heavy rain can lower surface temperatures.
Swimming is allowed at Lake Quinault and is a common summer activity at public beaches and lodge areas, but it is essentially swim-at-your-own-risk. There are few if any lifeguarded sites, and the lake’s cool temperatures mean cold-shock and hypothermia are real concerns outside midsummer; wetsuits or short swims are advisable when water is below comfortable bathing temperatures. Boat traffic, sudden depth changes, and limited visibility in the forested, tannin-stained water are additional considerations for anyone entering the lake.
