*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Ovid, a small inland lake in Michigan’s Sleepy Hollow State Park, experiences the typical seasonal temperature swings of shallow midwestern lakes. In spring, as ice melts and the water stratifies, surface temperatures often range from about 40–60°F (4–16°C). By summer the lake commonly warms to roughly 70–80°F (21–27°C) on the surface, occasionally peaking a bit higher during heat waves. In autumn the surface cools again to approximately 50–65°F (10–18°C) before winter sets in; once ice forms the liquid water beneath the ice hovers close to freezing, around 32–39°F (0–4°C), and surface ice temperatures fall below 32°F (0°C).
Swimming is generally permitted in Lake Ovid during the ice‑free months because the lake is managed for multiple recreational uses, including boating and fishing. However, there are no lifeguards on duty and conditions can change with weather, algae blooms, or runoff, so visitors should follow posted park guidelines and any water‑quality advisories. In winter, swimming is not appropriate due to ice and dangerously cold water. As with any natural lake, people should assess temperature, visibility, and currents, and use caution when entering the water, especially for children and less experienced swimmers.
