*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Leon’s surface water temperatures follow the seasonal cycle typical of central Texas reservoirs. In winter the lake often cools to roughly 45–60°F (7–16°C), which many swimmers find brisk to cold. Spring brings a steady warming, with surface readings commonly in the 55–75°F (13–24°C) range as the air temperatures rise. Peak summer conditions can push the surface into the mid-70s to around the low 90s °F (about 24–33°C), producing the warmest and most comfortable swimming conditions. During autumn the lake cools again, generally sitting between about 60–75°F (16–24°C) before winter sets in. Deeper water remains cooler year-round, so temperature stratification and sudden drops can occur when diving or swimming offshore.
Swimming at Lake Leon is generally allowed in recreation areas of the reservoir because it is managed for public recreation, but access and activities are subject to local rules and seasonal advisories. There are often no lifeguards on duty, so visitors should exercise caution, be mindful of boat traffic, and heed posted warnings. Water quality can vary; periods of elevated bacteria or blue‑green algal blooms have been known to prompt temporary closures or advisories, so checking current conditions before entering the water is advisable.
