*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Hubbard Lake’s surface temperatures follow the familiar seasonal pattern of northern Michigan lakes. In winter the lake sits at or just above freezing, generally around 32°F (0°C) at the surface with ice cover common. Spring warming brings temperatures into the 40–60°F range (4–16°C) as snowmelt and cool air keep the water brisk. By summer, surface temperatures commonly rise to roughly 65–80°F (18–27°C) during the warmest weeks, making the shallower nearshore water feel noticeably warmer than deeper parts. In fall the lake cools again, with surface readings typically falling back into the 50–65°F band (10–18°C) before ice forms again in late season.
Swimming at Hubbard Lake is generally permitted and is a common recreational activity, especially in summer when surface temperatures are most comfortable. Public access points, private beaches and cottages are used for bathing, boating and related activities. However, swimming is less practical and can be hazardous in spring, fall and winter due to cold water shock and ice; water temperature, weather and local advisories (for example, algal blooms or bacterial warnings) should be checked before entering. Lifeguards are not present at all locations, so swimmers should exercise usual precautions regarding depth, currents, water clarity and supervision.
