** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Hauser Lake, a reservoir on the Missouri River in Montana, tends to have cool, seasonally variable water temperatures. In spring the surface often runs around 40–55°F (4–13°C) as snowmelt and runoff cool the lake, while summer surface temperatures commonly rise to roughly 65–75°F (18–24°C) and occasionally approach the upper 70s°F (~25°C) in warm, calm periods. By autumn the surface cools back into the 40–55°F (4–13°C) range, and in winter the lake can approach freezing at the surface (around 32°F / 0°C) where ice forms. Deeper water remains substantially colder year-round, often in the 40s°F (4–9°C), because of stratification and inflow from the river.
Swimming at Hauser Lake is generally allowed and popular when conditions are warm because public shoreline areas and boat ramps are managed for recreation. However, swimmers should be aware of cold-water hazards, variable currents and boat traffic, and occasional water-quality advisories that can limit safe swimming. The lake’s reservoir nature means currents near the outlet and dam can be hazardous, and cold deeper water can cause cold shock or hypothermia even on warm days, so visitors should check local conditions, stay near shore, and use flotation when appropriate.
