** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Cedar Bluff Reservoir experiences a wide annual range of water temperatures that closely follows Kansas seasonal patterns. In spring (April–May) surface temperatures commonly run about 45–65°F (7–18°C) as the lake warms after winter. By early summer (June) surfaces are often 65–75°F (18–24°C), with midsummer (July–August) surface readings typically in the 75–85°F (24–29°C) band and occasionally higher during heat waves. In fall (September–October) the water cools again to roughly 50–70°F (10–21°C). Winter months can bring near‑freezing surface conditions, often around 32–40°F (0–4°C) with colder spells and localized ice on shallow coves. Deeper water remains cooler than the surface year‑round and temperatures vary by wind, inflow, and recent weather.
Swimming at Cedar Bluff is generally permitted in recreational and park‑managed areas because the reservoir is maintained for boating, fishing and day‑use activities. The most comfortable and common swimming season corresponds to the warmest surface temperatures in summer when water reaches the mid‑70s to mid‑80s°F (mid‑20s to upper‑20s °C). Swimmers should be aware there are no guarantees of lifeguards, temperatures can change quickly with weather and depth, and boating traffic, currents near inlets and variable water quality can affect safety, so designated swim areas and posted guidance are typically recommended.
