Location & Local Information
Bokod Reservoir, often referred to as the “floating village lake” because of its unique wooden houses built on stilts over the water, is a man-made lake near the village of Bokod. The reservoir was originally created to cool a power plant, which means its water temperature is often higher than in natural lakes nearby. Even in winter, parts of the lake may remain unfrozen, while in summer the water can easily reach 22–26°C, creating comfortable conditions for swimming.
Although it is not a traditional tourist beach destination, locals sometimes swim in the reservoir, especially in warmer months. The lake is more famous for fishing and its picturesque wooden piers, but for those seeking an unusual bathing experience, its warm water provides a unique alternative compared to other Hungarian lakes.
