** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Arivaca Lake, located in southern Arizona near the town of Arivaca and close to the Mexican border, is a small reservoir set within a high desert landscape of rolling hills and grasslands. Its water temperature varies considerably through the year due to both elevation and desert climate. During winter, the surface temperature generally ranges from 48 to 55°F (9–13°C), remaining cool but seldom cold enough for ice. In spring, as air temperatures rise rapidly, the lake warms to around 63–72°F (17–22°C) by late April and May. During the summer months, surface water temperatures often reach 78–84°F (26–29°C), occasionally higher during extended heat waves. In autumn, the water gradually cools to about 65–72°F (18–22°C) before returning to winter levels.
Swimming is allowed at Arivaca Lake, though it is not a heavily developed recreational area. The lake’s modest size and peaceful surroundings make it suitable for informal swimming, kayaking, and fishing, especially during the warmer months from late May through September. The water is generally comfortable for swimming in summer, though visibility may be reduced by algae and aquatic vegetation. Because there are no lifeguards or designated beaches, visitors should exercise caution, especially when wading near steep banks or submerged plants. Overall, Arivaca Lake offers a natural, quiet setting for warm-season swimming and relaxation.
