*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Danbury, located in western Connecticut near the border with New York, is surrounded by several freshwater bodies, including Candlewood Lake, Kenosia Lake, and the Still River. The region’s humid continental climate brings cold winters and warm summers, which cause significant seasonal variation in water temperatures. During winter, local lakes and rivers often cool to 0–3 °C (32–37 °F), and smaller lakes may partially freeze. In spring, the water gradually warms to about 8–15 °C (46–59 °F) as air temperatures rise. By midsummer, Candlewood Lake—the largest lake in Connecticut—typically reaches 22–26 °C (72–79 °F) at the surface, while deeper areas remain several degrees cooler. In autumn, the water cools again to around 10–16 °C (50–61 °F) before dropping back to near freezing in late fall.
Swimming in and around Danbury is common and officially permitted during the summer months, from late June through early September, when water temperatures are warm and conditions are stable. Candlewood Lake and Lake Kenosia both feature designated beaches and public access points that offer safe swimming environments. Outside the summer season, swimming becomes less comfortable due to cooler temperatures and shorter days, but the lakes remain popular for boating, fishing, and other recreational activities year-round.
