Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Ripon, a historic cathedral city in North Yorkshire, is set beside the River Ure, a clear and lively waterway that flows southward from the Yorkshire Dales. In this part of its course, the Ure retains much of its upland character, with cool, fresh water and a steady current. During winter, temperatures usually range between 3 and 6°C (37–43°F), remaining brisk and often misty in the mornings. In spring, the river warms to around 8–11°C (46–52°F), and by midsummer—typically July and August—it reaches 16–19°C (61–66°F), depending on sunshine and rainfall. By early autumn, the temperature gradually drops back to about 11–13°C (52–55°F), maintaining a cool but pleasant quality for outdoor activities.
Swimming in the River Ure near Ripon is permitted and attracts wild swimmers who enjoy natural, unspoiled surroundings. The water is clean and clear, though swimmers should remain cautious of strong currents and deeper pools, especially after rain. The best swimming conditions are found during warm, calm periods in summer, when the river is both accessible and refreshing. The scenic setting adds to the appeal, with green meadows, wooded banks, and nearby attractions such as Fountains Abbey, Studley Royal Park, and the walking trails that follow the Ure’s peaceful valley.
