*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Huddersfield, situated in West Yorkshire, lies among hills and valleys where rivers, reservoirs, and canals form an important part of the landscape. The water in these bodies remains cool for most of the year because of the area’s upland climate and frequent rainfall. In winter, water temperatures typically range from 3–5 °C (37–41 °F), rising gradually in spring to around 8–10 °C (46–50 °F). During the summer months, the surface water may reach 15–17 °C (59–63 °F) in sheltered spots, while deeper or shaded sections stay several degrees cooler. By autumn, the temperature generally drops again toward 9–11 °C (48–52 °F), following the natural seasonal rhythm of northern England’s waterways.
Swimming in Huddersfield’s rivers and reservoirs is possible but not officially promoted due to cold temperatures and safety restrictions in managed water sites. Some experienced wild swimmers enjoy selected stretches of the River Holme or smaller upland reservoirs during calm summer days, though care is needed because of changing depths and low temperatures. Wetsuits are commonly used outside midsummer. The surrounding countryside offers scenic walking and cycling routes, including the Huddersfield Narrow Canal and the Colne Valley. Nearby attractions such as Castle Hill, Marsden Moor, and Holme Moss add to the area’s outdoor appeal.
