*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The River Thames flows right through Oxford, where it is known locally as the Isis, offering a picturesque backdrop for the city’s historic colleges. The river’s temperature varies widely throughout the year due to air temperature and flow rates. In the winter months, the water drops to a chilly range of approximately 5 to 10∘C (41 to 50∘F). During the height of summer, the temperature can rise to a much more pleasant 18 to 22∘C (64 to 72∘F), which is the peak season for open water activity.
While not officially sanctioned as a safe swimming area, wild swimming is popular in certain stretches near Oxford, particularly around Port Meadow, which is now a designated bathing water site subject to monitoring. However, swimming carries significant risks, including cold water shock, strong currents, and fluctuating water quality often impacted by runoff and sewage. Instead of swimming, most visitors opt for the more traditional Oxford activities of punting on the River Cherwell or hiring a rowing boat on the Thames. Beyond the famous university buildings, major attractions nearby include the magnificent Blenheim Palace, the Ashmolean Museum, and the historic Oxford Castle & Prison.
