*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Liverpool, a major port city in northwest England, stands on the wide estuary of the River Mersey, where the river meets the Irish Sea. The water temperature here reflects the maritime climate, with relatively small but steady seasonal changes. In winter, the Mersey typically remains between 5 and 7°C (41–45°F), staying cold and brackish due to tidal mixing. By spring, it warms to around 9–11°C (48–52°F). During midsummer—especially in July and August—the water can reach 16–18°C (61–64°F) on warm days, though sea breezes and tides often keep it feeling cooler. As autumn returns, the temperature gradually drops to around 10–12°C (50–54°F), maintaining a mild but fresh character throughout most of the year.
Swimming in the River Mersey at Liverpool is not generally recommended because of strong tidal currents, boat traffic, and limited visibility. The estuary’s fast-moving water makes it challenging and potentially unsafe for casual swimmers. However, organized open-water events sometimes take place under supervision. Many people enjoy the river instead from the shore, taking in views of the waterfront or ferry rides across the estuary. Liverpool’s riverside area features attractions such as the Royal Albert Dock, Pier Head, and the striking Three Graces, combining maritime heritage with cultural and recreational appeal.
