Location & Local Information
Tavriisk is located on the left (eastern) bank of the Dnieper River, just downstream from where the Kakhovka Dam once formed a large reservoir. In summertime, especially before the dam’s destruction, shallow zones near Tavriisk would often warm to about 24–27 °C on sunny days, particularly where the flow was weaker. In deeper or faster sections, the water remained cooler, likely around 20–23 °C. Since the reservoir was drained, the river has reclaimed a more natural profile in that region, making water temperatures more variable and more dependent on shading, depth, and flow.
Swimming in Tavriisk is possible in calmer river bends and spots with gentle slopes into the water. Local residents might choose sheltered banks or side channels for bathing. However, the altered river dynamics after the dam collapse mean currents, submerged debris, and changing depths can pose risks. Swimming is safest in familiar areas where people know the conditions: entry is gradual, flow is mild, and visibility is good.
