Location & Local Information
The Kurakhivske Reservoir, located near the town of Kurakhove in Donetsk Oblast, was formed on the Vovcha River and serves both as a cooling reservoir for the local power plant and as a recreational water body. During summer, the surface water temperature here is noticeably higher than in natural lakes or rivers nearby — often reaching 25–28°C, and sometimes even warmer near the shallower southern shores. The calm surface and gradual entry into the water make it suitable for swimming, though some parts closer to industrial zones are less recommended for bathing.
Locals often use the reservoir for recreation, sunbathing, and small boat rides. On weekends, especially in July and August, families come to the cleaner sections of the shore for swimming and picnics. The combination of warm water, open space, and relatively gentle waves gives the place a seaside-like feel, though visitors usually choose spots farther from the power station to enjoy better water quality and quieter surroundings.
