*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The city of Van in eastern Turkey lies on the eastern shore of Lake Van, a large, high-altitude alkaline lake. Surface water temperatures vary with the seasons because of the lake’s elevation and continental climate. Typical winter surface temperatures can fall to around 0–6 °C (32–43 °F), occasionally approaching freezing in sheltered bays during very cold years. In spring the surface usually warms to roughly 6–12 °C (43–54 °F). Peak summer temperatures tend to occur in July and August, with surface readings commonly in the 18–24 °C (64–75 °F) range, while autumn brings a decline to about 10–16 °C (50–61 °F). Deep-water temperatures remain much colder year-round due to the lake’s depth.
Swimming in Lake Van is possible and is most common in the warmest months, but there are caveats. The lake is alkaline and salt-rich compared with freshwater, which can make the water feel slick and sometimes irritate eyes and sensitive skin; buoyancy is somewhat different from freshwater as well. Facilities and lifeguard coverage are limited along much of the shoreline, and sudden winds or temperature drops can make conditions risky outside midsummer. For these reasons swimming is generally allowed but should be undertaken with caution, local advice, and awareness of seasonal temperature limits.
