** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Karakaya Dam in Elazığ forms a large reservoir on the Euphrates whose surface temperatures follow the region’s continental climate. Generally, winter surface temperatures are low, commonly around 0–8 °C (32–46 °F), rising through spring to roughly 8–16 °C (46–61 °F). In summer the reservoir surface often warms to about 20–26 °C (68–79 °F) in sheltered shallows, while autumn sees a decline to roughly 10–18 °C (50–64 °F). These are typical surface ranges; actual temperatures vary with depth, inflows from upstream, wind mixing and seasonal weather, and deeper water released from the dam can be substantially colder than surface readings.
Swimming in the Karakaya reservoir is not broadly organized as a public beach activity and is subject to safety and management constraints. Authorities generally prohibit or discourage swimming near the dam structure, intake areas and navigation channels because of strong currents, sudden releases, submerged hazards and boat traffic. In calmer bays away from infrastructure people may swim at their own risk during the warmest months, but colder spring and autumn temperatures and deeper cold layers increase hypothermia risk. Anyone considering swimming should heed local signage, follow municipal or dam-operator rules and choose sheltered spots well away from the dam and intake zones.
