** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Birecik Dam (Birecik Barajı) sits on the Euphrates and creates a large reservoir that affects surrounding districts of southeastern Turkey. Water temperatures in the reservoir vary by season: in winter surface temperatures commonly fall to about 6–10 °C (43–50 °F), spring warming brings roughly 10–20 °C (50–68 °F), summer months typically see 22–28 °C (72–82 °F) and can occasionally reach near 30 °C (86 °F) during heat waves, while autumn usually cools to about 15–22 °C (59–72 °F). These ranges are approximate averages for the surface layer; deeper water remains colder year-round and local conditions such as inflows, weather patterns and reservoir management can cause short-term variations.
Swimming at Birecik reservoir is not broadly promoted as an organized recreational activity and is often discouraged near the dam structure. Authorities and safety experts caution against swimming close to the dam because of strong currents, sudden releases, submerged obstacles and boat traffic; water quality can also fluctuate with agricultural runoff and river inflows. In warmer months many locals may still swim in calmer, shallower bays and designated recreational spots where access and safety are better, but anyone considering swimming should check local rules, observe posted warnings and be mindful of changing conditions.
