Bafra is a coastal district of Samsun on the southern edge of the Black Sea with several freshwater bodies and delta wetlands near the Kızılırmak estuary. Water temperatures in the local lakes and ponds follow the regional continental-maritime climate pattern: in winter surface temperatures commonly fall to about 4–8 °C (39–46 °F), in spring they rise to roughly 8–16 °C (46–61 °F), in summer they reach their peak around 20–26 °C (68–79 °F), and in autumn they typically sit between 12–18 °C (54–64 °F). These are approximate ranges and can vary with weather, depth, and freshwater inflow from rivers.
Swimming is possible seasonally, mainly in the warmest summer months when surface temperatures are comfortable for bathing, but whether it is allowed depends on local regulations, water quality and protected-area status of parts of the delta. Some lake and estuary zones are managed for wildlife or used for agriculture and may be closed to swimmers; others have no formal prohibition but lack lifeguards and may have variable water quality.
