** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Trollhättan sits on the Göta älv and close to Sweden’s inland lakes, so most local bathing takes place in rivers and freshwater lakes rather than the sea. Typical summer water temperatures in calm lakes near Trollhättan range from about 17–22 °C (63–72 °F), peaking in July–August. The Göta älv itself is often a few degrees cooler and more variable, commonly 15–20 °C (59–68 °F) in summer but subject to rapid changes because of flow, depth and upstream releases. In spring (April–June) temperatures are usually 4–12 °C (39–54 °F), in autumn (September–October) 10–16 °C (50–61 °F), and in winter inland waters approach freezing, roughly 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), with ice cover possible on sheltered lakes.
Swimming is generally allowed at marked beaches and public bathing spots in and around Trollhättan, where water quality is monitored and facilities are provided. However, swimming is discouraged or prohibited in shipping channels, near locks and industrial installations, and in fast-moving stretches of the Göta älv because of strong currents, sudden depth changes and boat traffic. Warm summers can bring algal blooms in shallow bays, so local advisories should be followed for safety and hygiene.
