Girona’s most familiar natural water body is the Estany de Banyoles, a glacial lake a short distance from the city that sets the benchmark for local lake swimming. Surface temperatures at Banyoles and similar reservoirs in the Girona area vary by season: in spring the water typically averages about 12–18 °C (54–64 °F), in summer it warms to roughly 20–26 °C (68–79 °F), in autumn it cools to around 14–20 °C (57–68 °F), and in winter temperatures commonly fall into the 6–12 °C (43–54 °F) range.
