*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Naas, a county town in Kildare, is located inland and its local waterways are dominated by the Grand Canal and associated branches. Water temperatures in such canals and reservoirs generally track the air temperature but lag slightly, resulting in very cold winter lows and moderate summer highs. Expect the water to range from approximately 5∘C (41∘F) in the deep winter months to about 18∘C (64∘F) on the warmest days in mid-summer. Given these temperatures, a wetsuit is a necessity for any prolonged period in the water outside of the warmest season.
Official swimming in the Grand Canal in Naas is generally not permitted and strongly discouraged by authorities, primarily due to safety concerns. Hidden dangers like submerged debris and strong, unexpected currents near locks or sluices pose a significant risk of entrapment or injury. Additionally, water quality can be variable, and the sheer, slippery canal banks make emergency exit difficult. For safe water-based recreation, visitors can enjoy a scenic barge trip on the canal at nearby Sallins. Other popular local attractions include the prestigious Naas and Punchestown Racecourses, the Irish National Stud and Japanese Gardens, and the historic Moat Theatre.
