Ylöjärvi, located in the Pirkanmaa region of western Finland, is a town surrounded by numerous lakes such as Näsijärvi, Kyrösjärvi, and smaller local ponds and rivers. These freshwater bodies define the local landscape and offer good opportunities for swimming and recreation. The water temperature varies with the seasons, reflecting the inland Finnish climate. After the ice melts in late April or early May, the surface temperature is around 4–7 °C (39–45 °F). During early summer, it rises to 13–16 °C (55–61 °F), and in July, the warmest month, the lakes around Ylöjärvi typically reach 18–22 °C (64–72 °F). On particularly warm days, shallow bays may exceed 23 °C (73 °F). By late September, the temperature drops below 10 °C (50 °F), and the lakes freeze again in November.
