Aytos (Айтос) sits inland in Burgas Province and is crossed by the Aytoska River and several small reservoirs and irrigation ponds rather than large natural lakes. Seasonal water temperatures in those rivers tend to be cool: in winter they usually approach 1–6 °C (34–43 °F), in spring they commonly rise to 5–14 °C (41–57 °F), and in summer river sections and deeper, flowing stretches typically warm to around 15–22 °C (59–72 °F). Small, shallow reservoirs and ponded areas near Aytos warm more in calm weather; surface temperatures there in late summer often reach 20–27 °C (68–81 °F) and, in very shallow basins on hot weeks, can occasionally approach 28–30 °C (82–86 °F).
Swimming in Aytos’s inland waters is possible in summer but not always officially designated or supervised.
